Ingredients

Chana dal – 1 cup soaked

Onion – 2 finely chopped

Green chilli – 2 finely chopped

Fennel seeds – 1 tsp crushed

Garlic – 5 nos crushed

Curry leaves – few chopped

Oil – As required

Salt – As per taste

Preparation Time: 20 min

Cooking Time: 15 min

Method

Wash 1 cup chana dal and soak it in water for 2 hours.

Drain off water and keep aside. Make sure there is no water in the dal.

In a mixie jar add soaked dal then pulse it several times to get a coarse mixture.

To a mixing bowl, add ground chana dal, salt, onion, green chilli, curry leaves, crushed garlic, fennel seeds.

Mix all the ingredients together to get a well binded mixture.

To check take a small portion of the dough and shape to a vada. The mixture should hold shape well and not fall apart.

In a pan heat oil on medium flame for deep frying.

Take a small ball sized mixture, press down in your palm to form a vada and drop in hot oil.

Later turn it to the other side and fry until golden & crisp on both the sides.

Masala vada is ready! Serve hot with coconut chutney.
